4-29-11 Packets of Information and permission slips were given to any Grade 7 student interested in attending the Washington, DC trip in November. If your student did not pick one up, they are available on the Washington, D.C. link under Parent Resources. The 1st deposit and permission slip are due on May 20, 2011. If you have any questions, please call Debbie Misiura on ext. 101. The Yearbook Final Sale has been extended until Wednesday, May 4th. A partial payment of at least $7.00 will also be accepted as a deposit to reserve a yearbook. The rest of the payment will be due at the time of distribution. Pick up an order form in the office or in front of Room 103. The total cost is $17.00. The PTO is holding a magazine drive. Students were given order packets earlier this week. Students bringing in orders you will be entered into a raffle to win an ITunes Gift Card! Sell 10 subscriptions and win a chance at a $20 gift card, sell 5 and be in the 15 card drawing. Hoops for Heart envelopes are due! On Friday, April 1st, TMS will once again be participating in this nation-wide fundraiser for the American Heart Association, reinforcing the message that an active lifestyle is essential for health. Donations of bottled water, juice and healthy snacks are needed for the participants. Donations may be sent to the main office. Volunteers are also needed to man the refreshment table. 3-25-11 REMINDER: Monday, March 28th is a district-wide Late Start day for teacher in-service. TMS starts at 9:30 a.m. Eighth grade students trying out for Track will be running the mile on Monday, March 28. Students must have sweatpants, sweatshirts and a water bottle in order to try out. ATTENTION 7TH GRADERS AND THEIR PARENTS: There will be an informational meeting about the 2011-12 Grade 8 Washington, D.C. trip on Tuesday, March 29th, at 6:30 p.m. in the TMS auditorium. 3-24-11 The Tolland Public Schools 2011-12 Calendar has been approved. 3-22-11 Hoops for Heart to support the American Heart Association will take place on Friday, April 1st. Permission forms and fundraising packets have been distributed to interested students. If you would like to volunteer to help that day, or would like to send in snacks for the participants, please return the Volunteer/Snack form to Ms. Thibodeau or the main office. 3-21-11 Please note, CMT testing continues through this week. 3-18-11 Grade 8 students participating in the June Washington trip - Final payment is due on Friday, March 25th. Every student should have received an invoice in the mail. 02-9-11 The TMS parent portal is open for access for Quarter 3. 02-8-11 Please anticipate buses being late this morning. There is a 90 minute delayed opening today, Tuesday, February 8th. Although a lot
of hard work occurred over the weekend, we could not clear all of the
areas necessary to open school. Therefore school is closed, Monday,
February 7th. We hope to have those areas cleared Monday so that
school can open Tuesday.
02-04-11 Due to the loss of Friday (today) as a school day, Quarter 2 will extend until Monday, February 7th. Power School Portal will be open again for access as of February 9th. 02-03-11 After consulting with a structural engineer who informed officials that snow loads are at or near capacity on school roofs, the Tolland schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday February 4th. This is a precautionary measure that will allow for an extra day to remove snow over the weekend. 02-03-11 Today's boys' home basketball game at Tolland has been cancelled.(12:30pm)_ Today's girls' basketball game at Mansfield has been cancelled. Lifetouch picture retake day has been set for Wednesday, December 8th. New forms will be available soon for students who did not have their pictures taken. Early next week the town will be resurfacing the front entrance
driveway to TMS. The exact day is
unclear. The back road to TMS will be used as an entrance/exit to
TMS. This may cause additional traffic.
This project should last for one (1) day.

deadline for all athletic eligibility forms for Basketball, both Boys and
Girls, has been extended to November 10th for the Winter sports; otherwise

Tolland Schools are cancelled for today. There is no school today at Tolland Middle School or any of the Tolland Public Schools. All activities are similarly cancelled for today. 9-1-10 TMS staff and students are off to a great start of the 2010-11 year! Students arrived with smiles on their faces, and appear eager to learn. Staff have been planning for our new schedule, and are excited to greet their new classes. Today started with an Administrative Homeroom period to handle the distribution of schedules and lockers, and opening packets, along with a review of our new schedule. Tomorrow we will follow our regular, six period schedule, with morning announcements at the start of the day. The opening packets contain emergency cards, an informational letter from Dr. Willett, a listing of our clubs, insurance and free and reduced lunch forms. Please return updated emergency cards as soon as possible, to ensure we have accurate contact information. Seventh and eighth grade parents should have received a letter explaining a World Language elective option. If you are interested in having your child enroll in this class, please return the form at the bottom of the letter by Friday, September 10th. Please remember, if your child needs transportation to or from a place other than home, the bus company must receive an approved Transportation Request Form. There is a three day wait from the time the bus company receives the form until students may make the change. TOLLAND SOCCER CLUB is recruiting volunteer buddies to work with TOP Soccer Division soccer players. TOP Soccer is the name given to the youth soccer division within our recreation program for players with physical and mental disabilities.The Tolland Soccer Club is celebrating its 13th consecutive season of TOP Soccer for children ages 4-19 years old in September and October 2010. We are seeking middle-school age and high-school age volunteers to work with our TOP Soccer players. Last year we had over 40 buddies participate in TOP Soccer. We anticipate the need for 40 buddies this season as well. The TOP Soccer players come from Tolland and surrounding communities. The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association- the statewide governing body for youth club soccer-recognizes our TOP Soccer program as one of the oldest and largest for club play in Connecticut. Soccer experience is not required, just a big heart, and strong desire to help other children achieve their dreams. We would be honored to have you join us as a volunteer buddy this fall. On Thursday, April 22, the TMS Service Corps and the Jazz Band visited Woodlake of Tolland to entertain the residents. What started off as a kind deed became a lesson in making the best of a situation, when Dr. Willett, the band director, Ms. Titus, and about 12 of the band members got stuck in the elevator. The remaining Jazz Band members took control of the situation, setting up their instruments, and alternating directors so the show could go on. The staff and residents of Woodlake enjoyed the show, and the interaction with our students. These pictures show the band entertaining.

Tolland Middle School Track. Check-in is at 4:30 PM, meets starts at 5
PM. 4-19-10 The Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. More information will be sent home with 8th graders in the near future. The ceremony usually lasts for about one hour. The TMS PTO hosts a reception immediately following the ceremony, in the cafeteria. It's amazing what enthusiastic 8th graders can do! The 8th grade Teen Leadership classes are working to raise $3500 to build a home in Haiti. Thus far the students have raised $600 by selling lemonade on the town green, and $400 from bake sales. Activities that are planned for later this week include a Battle of the Bands on 4/22, a Public Ice Skate at Bolton Ice Palace on Friday, 4/23, a Family "Fun"d-Raiser at Ron a Roll on Saturday, 4/24, and a Family Fun Day at TMS on May 1st. These students have generated the ideas, made the contacts, and are working hard to make these activities a success! Mrs. Reilly, and Mrs. Dionne, the Teen Leadership teachers, Dr. Willett, and the entire staff of TMS are extremely proud of their efforts. 4-14-10 TMS has a new web-site.
