Packets of Information and permission slips were given to any Grade 7 student interested in attending the Washington, DC trip in November.  If your student did not pick one up, they are available on the Washington, D.C. link under Parent Resources. The 1st deposit and permission slip are due on May 20, 2011.  If you have any questions, please call Debbie Misiura on ext. 101.

The Yearbook Final Sale has been extended until Wednesday, May 4^th.  A partial payment of at least $7.00 will also be accepted as a deposit to reserve a yearbook.  The rest of the payment will be due at the time of distribution.  Pick up an order form in the office or in front of Room 103.  The total cost is $17.00.

The PTO is holding a magazine drive.  Students were given order packets earlier this week. Students bringing in orders you will be entered into a raffle to win an ITunes Gift Card!  Sell 10 subscriptions and win a chance at a $20 gift card, sell 5 and be in the 15 card drawing.  Sell even 1 subscription and be in the $10 card drawing, and be earn a chance in the grand prize raffle - a limo ride and lunch!  Be the top seller in your grade, and be guaranteed a limo ride and lunch!!!!!!  See the details on the sheet in the order packet.  Next collection day is Wednesday, May 4^th!

Grade 8 Washington students - If you have ordered Butter Braids for the fundraiser, pick up will be today from 3:30-5:30pm in the cafe.  All orders are frozen and must be picked up today - we have no freezer space and we our on Spring break next week.  Thank you.

The last opportunity to order a yearbook will be April 25-29. There is a limited number to sell, so orders will be taken first come, first served. The cost is $17.00. Order forms are available in the main office and in front of room 103. An order form can also be printed from the link on this page. Return the completed order form with cash or a check made payable to TMS SAA to the main office or to Mrs. Lemaire in room 103. Don't wait.

Locker cleanout will be held on Thursday and Friday this week.  Please remind your child to bring home any winter items that they will no longer be needing at school (we hope).  The Lost and Found has many coats, books, backpacks, etc.  During vacation everything that has not been claimed will be donated to charity.

ATTENTION 7TH GRADERS AND THEIR PARENTS:  There will be an informational meeting about the 2011-12 Grade 8 Washington, D.C. trip tonight, Tuesday, March 29th, at 6:30 p.m. in the TMS auditorium.

Hoops for Heart envelopes are due!  On Friday, April 1st, TMS will once again be participating in this nation-wide fundraiser for the American Heart Association, reinforcing the message that an active lifestyle is essential for health.  Donations of bottled water, juice and healthy snacks are needed for the participants.  Donations may be sent to the main office.  Volunteers are also needed to man the refreshment table.  If you are interested in helping you may send a note to the main office, or email Mrs. Thibodeau (hthibodeau@tolland.k12.ct.us).

Hoops for Heart to support the American Heart Association will take place on Friday, April 1st.  Permission forms and fundraising packets have been distributed to interested students.  If you would like to volunteer to help that day, or would like to send in snacks for the participants, please return the Volunteer/Snack form to Ms. Thibodeau or the main office.

Grade 8 students participating in the June Washington trip - Final payment is due on Friday, March 25th.  Every student should have received an invoice in the mail.  If you did not, please notify Debbie Misiura on ext. 101.  Also, if you have participated in the Butter Braids fundraiser, pick up will be April 15th from 4:00-5:30pm in the cafe.  All orders must be picked up due to the fact that we have no freezer space and the school will be closed the following week.

Baseball Tryouts will be held on March 21, 22, and 24, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Student Government will present the Funtastic Friday Night Bash on Friday, March 25th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., for students in grades 5 and 6, There will be music (live DJ), dancing, singing contests, dodge ball, creative arts and crafts, strategy games and much more.  Tickets will be sold at lunches for $5 with the permission slip available from the link.

TMS PTO Munson Chocolate fundraiser packets are due. 

CMT testing will continue on March 21-23 for all students.  Grade 8 students will continue testing through Friday, March 25th.  Makeup testing will take place on Thursday and Friday, March 24th and March 25th.

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 in the Tolland High School Auditorium.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss shortening the February break to make up lost school days due to the unprecedented amount of snowfall this winter.  There will be public participation.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 6th, is our first home basketball game.  Students have been reminded in morning announcements, and parents by an automated message, that the following rules apply to TMS basketball game attendance:

1. Students must have a note from home in order to attend basketball games.  They should send the note to the office during period 1.
2. Students may not call home during the day to receive permission to stay for the game.
3. Students attending the game must report to the hallway outside the gym at 2:30 p.m., following dismissal.
4. No food or drink is allowed in the gym.

This is the week of our annual band and chorus concerts!  Our students have been practicing for weeks to provide their families with an evening of musical delight.  Students should arrive at 6:30 p.m. to warm up for their performance.  The Grade 6 Concert is this evening at 7:00 p.m., the Grades 7 & 8 Concert is tomorrow evening, also at 7:00 p.m.

Evidence of how wonderful the TMS community is can be seen in the picture below.  Each year, TMS students and staff participate in a gift collection for children associated with KIDSAFE of Vernon.  KIDSAFE CT’s mission is to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect by developing, promoting and implementing programs and services within the communities they serve.  Each year, the response of the TMS community is overwhelming.  Thank you to all the students, staff and families who contributed, and to the parents and staff who did the shopping.  You've made the season brighter for children in need.

Lifetouch picture retake day has been set for Wednesday, December 8th. New forms will be available soon for students who did not have their pictures taken. Families who do not like the original picture should return the entire package to the photographer on retake day.

Attention 8th graders, the deadline for submitting baby pictures for the yearbook has been extended until Wednesday, November 10th.  Absolutely non will be accepted after that date.  Be sure your name and Per. 1 "A day" teacher's name is on the back.  Give it to Mrs. Lemaire in Room 103.

8th grade artists - cover artwork for the yearbook is due on November 17th.  Original artwork must be submitted to Mrs. Lemaire in room 103, and it should be on 8.5 X 11" paper, with black Sharpie only, no color.

A second session of the parent cyber workshop, Undercover Parenting in the Cyber Age:  Expect, Inspect, and Protect,  has been scheduled for Monday evening, November 15, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.  This is a hands -on computer class, and seats are limited.  Please return the registration form as soon as possible to reserve your space.  Due to the nature of the program, no students/minors are allowed.

The Yearbook is looking for 8th graders' baby pictures!.  Pictures can be from age newborn to five, and should be turned in to Mrs. Lemaire in room 103.  Please be sure to put your name and period 1A teacher's name on the back of the picture so it can be returned to you.  All pictures must be turned in by Friday, November 5th in order to be included in the yearbook.

The TMS Pumpkin Festival has been moved to Friday, October 29, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.  Admission is one carved pumpkin, which will be entered into the pumpkin contest.  Come at 6:00 PM to the atrium just outside the auditorium for face-painting, special programs for kids of all ages, and to hand in your carved pumpkin for our pumpkin contest. The pumpkins that receive the top three votes will get prizes!  At 6:30 PM, the TMS Band will play spooky favorites for us all in the auditorium, and at 7:00 PM we will have a special showing of the classic Charlie Brown special: It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The 7th/8th Grade Student Council Dance will occur right afterward at 7:30 PM in the cafeteria. Costumes are allowed at the dance, but no masks.

The Cider Mill 5K & Family Fun Run is organized by a committee partnered by the Tolland Elementary PTO, Tolland Middle School PTO, Tolland High School Booster Club, and the Tolland Recreation Department. Proceeds benefit these
organizations and their efforts to promote physical fitness within the Tolland Community. Entrance forms were distributed to TMS students on Friday, September 10th, or may be accessed from the TMS website.
To volunteer to help with the event, return the Volunteer Form to any school.

Today 8th graders will bring home an informational packet regarding the Washington, DC trip.  The first payment of $100 and permission slip are due by Friday, September 10, 2010.  Fundraising information is in the packet.  No forms or deposits will be accepted after due dates.

All parents and community members are invited to Breakfast with the Principal on Wednesday, September8, at 9:00 a.m.  Principal Walter Willett provides coffee and donuts, and will be happy to discuss whatever is on your mind.  Childcare is provided.  Please RSVP to Mrs. Gavin at 860-870-6860, especially if childcare is needed.

TMS staff and students are off to a great start of the 2010-11 year!  Students arrived with smiles on their faces, and appear eager to learn.  Staff have been planning for our new schedule, and are excited to greet their new classes.

Today started with an Administrative Homeroom period to handle the distribution of  schedules and lockers, and opening packets, along with a review of our new schedule.  Tomorrow we will follow our regular, six period schedule, with morning announcements at the start of the day. 

The opening packets contain emergency cards, an informational letter from Dr. Willett, a listing of our clubs, insurance and free and reduced lunch forms.  Please return updated emergency cards as soon as possible, to ensure we have accurate contact information.

Seventh and eighth grade parents should have received a letter explaining a World Language elective option.  If you are interested in having your child enroll in this class, please return the form at the bottom of the letter by Friday, September 10th.

Please remember, if your child needs transportation to or from a place other than home, the bus company must receive an approved Transportation Request Form.  There is a three day wait from the time the bus company receives the form until students may make the change.  Please remember that according to the bus policies, students may not ride a bus to any location other than home, without the form being on file.

TOLLAND SOCCER CLUB is recruiting volunteer buddies to work with TOP Soccer Division soccer players.  TOP Soccer is the name given to the youth soccer division within our recreation program for players with physical and mental disabilities.The Tolland Soccer Club is celebrating its 13^th consecutive season of TOP Soccer for children ages 4-19 years old in September and October 2010.  We are seeking middle-school age and high-school age volunteers to work with our TOP Soccer players.  Last year we had over 40 buddies participate in TOP Soccer.  We anticipate the need for 40 buddies this season as well.  The TOP Soccer players come from Tolland and surrounding communities.  The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association- the statewide governing body for youth club soccer-recognizes our TOP Soccer program as one of the oldest and largest for club play in Connecticut. Soccer experience is not required, just a big heart, and strong desire to help other children achieve their dreams. Eighth graders should have brought home a correction to the Grade 8 Activities flyer.  Each 8th grader will receive three (3) tickets to the promotion ceremony.  Families are asked to return to the office any tickets they will not be using.  Families who need additional tickets may call the office to request them.  Additional tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis, to a maximum of four additional tickets.  This is not a guarantee that tickets will be available.

Tolland Middle School proudly presents Dear Edwina Jr.  on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the TMS auditorium.  Tickets are available for $5 and may be purchased every morning during homeroom period.  Tickets are issued as reserved seating.  Come see Principal Willett as Farmer Jerry, Mrs. Misiura as the talent scout, and Mr. Eddinger as Uncle Vladimir, along with many of our TMS students as they bring down the house!  It will be a wonderful evening!

The 2011 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip has been approved.  An informational meeting for this year's 7th graders and their parents will be held on Tuesday, May 25, at 6:00 p.m., in the TMS auditorium.

On Thursday, April 22, the TMS Service Corps and the Jazz Band visited Woodlake of Tolland to entertain the residents.  What started off as a kind deed became a lesson in making the best of a situation, when Dr. Willett, the band director, Ms. Titus, and about 12 of the band members got stuck in the elevator.  The remaining Jazz Band members took control of the situation, setting up their instruments, and alternating directors so the show could go on.  The staff and residents of Woodlake enjoyed the show, and the interaction with our students.  These pictures show the band entertaining.

Grade 8 Washington Meeting-Monday, May 10, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium.  This meeting is for all parents and students who are attending the Washington trip in June. 

Hershey's Track and Field Games are open to any child born between 1996 and 2001.  The games will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Tolland Middle School Track.  Check-in is at 4:30 PM, meets starts at 5 PM.

The Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 6:00 p.m.  More information will be sent home with 8th graders in the near future.  The ceremony usually lasts for about one hour.  The TMS PTO hosts a reception immediately following the ceremony, in the cafeteria.

It's amazing what enthusiastic 8th graders can do!  The 8th grade Teen Leadership classes are working to raise $3500 to build a home in Haiti.   Thus far the students have raised $600 by selling lemonade on the town green, and  $400 from bake sales.  Activities that are planned for later this week include a Battle of the Bands on 4/22, a Public Ice Skate at Bolton Ice Palace on Friday, 4/23, a Family "Fun"d-Raiser at Ron a Roll on Saturday, 4/24, and a Family Fun Day at TMS on May 1st.  These students have generated the ideas, made the contacts, and are working hard to make these activities a success!  Mrs. Reilly, and Mrs. Dionne, the Teen Leadership teachers, Dr. Willett, and the entire staff of TMS are extremely proud of their efforts.
