GREAT NEWS!

Thirty five students from the 6th grade Red Team, making up 12 teams, have been participating in the Hartford Courant's Stock Market Game.
The students gave up their lunch and recess with Mrs. Rioux for 10 consecutive weeks  to participate in the Stock Market Game. The students began with $100,000 and invested in stocks that trade on the New York, American, and NASDAQ stock exchanges. The teams were competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place within the Red Team group. One team, consisting of Taaj Cheema, Peter Miller, Nick Merluzzo, and Chris Berner, outranked all. They won 1st place position within the New England region earning a profit of $12,000. They came in first place out of 136 other intermediate school teams. We wish them congratulations for their wise investing and commitment to being the best.  We also wish a big thank you to Ms. Rioux who designed the lesson and facilitated the students in this process!

8-31-07

There have been a few questions regarding the school's 'lunch' policy. Students at Tolland Middle School sign up for the POS system to receive lunches, they can also pay in cash. Please click here for information from our food services department. Students who have forgotten their lunch, or lunch money, will be given a lunch that is credited against their POS (Point of Service) account. Only one lunch will be allowed to be credited to this account. The POS is a debit account, meaning it is designed to have students deposit funds that are deducted from a positive balance each time a student buys a lunch. The POS system is not set up to track or report extensive credit balances. Of course we do not want a student to go through the day hungry, therefore if a student forgets his or her lunch or their money again, after having used their one credit, they can obtain a granola bar or breakfast bar from our staff in the lunch wave.

8-30-07

I welcome all parents and community members to a monthly Breakfast with the Principal. These are held the first Wednesday of every month from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  The first of these will be on Wednesday, September 5th. We will attempt to provide childcare if we know in advance of your attendance and childcare needs.  Please come and share coffee, morning sweets, and your ideas and concerns. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you find the time please RSVP to Roberta at TMS by calling 875-2564.
