Guidelines for use of TMS Academic Achievement Lab and the TMS Academy
Referral Process:
A teacher who feels that a student is struggling with a concept can refer the student for mandatory extra help by using the “TMS Academic Achievement Lab and TMS Academy Referral Form.” The form should be completed with attached work, and put into the mailbox for the TMS Academic Achievement Lab and TMS Academy in the main office mailroom. The student is then told, by the referring teacher, that s/he must sign up and go to the lab or the Academy before a date determined by that teacher to complete the work. Students should be told they can sign up for the Achievement Lab or the Academy in the main office (a daily list of who has signed up for the labs will go out with the attendance lists). Sixth graders going to the Achievement Lab will do so in lieu of their Exploratory classes. Seventh and Eighth graders going to the Achievement Lab will do so in lieu of their Electives. All grades can go to the TMS Academy (2:30 – 4:10 PM). When filling out the form please remember to fill out part IVa. and put it in the Academy - AAL Call list mailbox so that the parents will be called and informed. Please give part IVb. to the student as a reminder. The referral form will be returned to the teacher’s mailbox, with a stamp from the Achievement Lab or the Academy, when the student has completed the work requested. If the form is not returned, it will mean the student has not gone to the Lab or the Academy. If this occurs, the teacher must write the student up for a mandatory Office Detention. The referral form (for extra help) can be resubmitted again despite any detentions issued to the student.
